Group show @89Redruth - 2nd to 6th Sept 2026
I paint in the landscape in the most remote spots I can find. Sometimes the wilderness butts up against humanity and this juncture is always magical.
Today I am under the Kent chalk cliffs at the furthermost point where no-one ventures. I have my oils, board and easel and I paint direct from life enjoying peace, solitude and release in the natural world.
Above my head a seagull hovers.
She is wild and nests deep in the chalk cliffs. Not used to people she is a curious and friendly companion. I love her. She drops down and lands on the sea defences, quiet, observing the sea and land as I do. Shortly she is joined by two other gulls, all standing in a line with me.
A sharp and fresh gust whips in from the sea. All three seagulls cock their heads back, open their beaks and call into the wind.
‘Caw, caw’.
My heart is filled with happiness.
This is my practise.
