Group show @89Redruth - 2nd to 6th Sept 2026
We are a group of artists who met while studying on the year-long Defining Practice programme at Newlyn School of Art between September 2024 and July 2025. And what began as a shared commitment to developing our individual practices, grew into a community built on curiosity, generosity and friendship and fun. Rather than allowing that connection to fade, as so often can happen once courses come to an end, we made a conscious decision to protect it.
While our work spans a wide range of subjects, materials and approaches, The Wuther Collective is not simply a group of artists exhibiting together; it is an ongoing commitment to sprinkle some magic on each of our practices!
We meet up, visit exhibitions, travel together, share ideas and support one another’s evolving practices. From galleries in Bristol, London and Margate to discussions over coffee and studio visits, these shared adventures continue to shape us as artists and as a collective.
Our name, Wuther, comes from an old Northern word describing the sound and force of a wild, fierce wind. It also carries a story of its own. On the final weekend of our course, our tutors took us to a karaoke night in Penzance, where one member delivered an unforgettable rendition of Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights. The name stayed with us.
Like the wind itself, that speaks of movement, energy and something impossible to contain, each artist brings a distinct voice and perspective. Together we celebrate the conversations, the encouragement and the shared experiences and we look forward to seeing where the wind takes us next.
