How much attention do you pay to the details in the natural environment around you? The centre of a flower, lichen growing in a wall, fungus on the branches of a tree? 

The beauty of the macro, these intricate and overlooked textures of the natural world are the foundations of my artistic practice. It’s these details that captivate me as I walk and explore the landscape of Somerset and the South West where I live. 

My textile practice is rooted in a familiar organic and natural language of repetitive patterns, gathering and texture. This familiar language is juxtaposed with a synthetic and radical colour palette, drawing attention to the joy and beauty of nature by enlarging and enhancing its colour, texture and patterns. 

This relationship between familiar natural shapes and patterns, with the enhanced synthetic and radical colour palette, raises questions to the viewer. Inviting them to consider the relationship between natural and synthetic, whilst confronting them with the macro details of the landscape in an unavoidable way.
